RE: Image Test...??

Not that it helps anything, but never did I want to imply that I could do anything about the white area by simply resizing (using the methods which have been discussed). I kinda feel that for the time being I should keep 'cropping' and 'resizing' in different categories (for the purpose of learning more about resizing without distortion).
Your work with the last photo is outstanding (reducing to max size allowed, and without distortion). The bar is high, from where I stand.

RE: Image Test...??

Now, I'm trying the same thing, but with the photo image itself centered on the scanner:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/WillieNunez/MyDeuceCoupeDixiefullsize.jpg width=640
RESULT:
It does NOT seem to make any difference on the distortion of lines on the grille and on my shirt.
Could it be that the non-standard aspect ratio of the image itself is confusing the resizing software?
Pardon my terminology.

RE: Image Test...??

This is the photo that is giving me heartburn. And, I believe you might've said, or someone said, it's due to the fact that it has that broad space of white on the right side.
With this post, I'm attempting the method of reduction that you explained today (from Photobucket) :

RE: Image Test...??

OK, I'll try it.
(time lapse)
At the risk of looking like a computer dummie (that's how I feel sometimes) I'll say WOW!
But, I gotta wonder why the moderator in ATC didn't just relay the same info, instead of what she did to my 700 wide photos???? How's a dummie supposed to act like a pro....????:B:B:B
Thank you so much,
Willie

RE: Image Test...??

You have correctly put in a link to a page that contains some pictures.
Here is a picture from that page. You can click on the Quote link for this post and see what the syntax is. I added the "width=640" to reduce the size of the picture to the forum's recommended maximum.
http://www.rginnovation.com/img/splash/mainImage.jpg width=640
I got the URL, http://www.rginnovation.com/img/splash/mainImage.jpg, by right-clicking on the picture and selecting properites.
Tom
Still having problems. Specifically, in attempting to accomplish what you did (above). It sounded too simple "added the 'width=640'".
In Photobucket, which has many photos which I want to reduce to 640 width, I can NOT find a way to do it.
I tried finding the COMPLETE syntax of yours, just prior to adding the width=640. In other words, I would like to know, which of the Photobucket syntax do I need to have, complete with everything need in order for the photo to show up in the post, and where in it do you add the width=640?

RE: What do you DO?

Just 2 years into our fulltiming adventure, we started re-evaluating. And, it was because we were faced with, "What do you DO?" We lasted about 3-1/2 years.
Oh, don't get me wrong, there was plenty to do. But, it turns out that most of the things WE wanted to do were IN, and about, and associated, and from,.....a brick house with a yard and a garage and a neighborhood, and a city of choice.
In other words, there's a huge difference between fulltiming and RVing.
Our style of RVing is simply using the RV to make it comfortable and convenient to go and enjoy a choice destination. But, we gotta have a conventional base to return to, such that you can just drive into the backyard/hook it up and leave it for more comfortable/spacious digs.
WE do a variety of things, some of which would not suit someone else.

RE: Dirt Track Racing....

I follow NASCAR now, on the internet and on TV, because it's handy and affordable. But, I got hooked on dirt at an early age, In high school, I was doing street rods, dirt bikes, go-karts, and flying. From go-karts I went into SCCA Forula B, THEN my friend talked me into a Super Modified ride, on dirt. This first ride had "history". It was the "Golden Greek" from Albuquerque. Johnny Capels, who later became competition director for USAC, was the owner driver. He had won the championship in Albuquerque(circa 1967), but then crashed the car at Manzi. We bought the car crashed, and I rebuilt it and ran it at Horizon Speedway. Boy, was I hooked:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/WillieNunez/FirstDirtCar6ontrack.jpg
But, I wanted a Sprint Car. I built my own, from AJ Watson plans. I tested it a couple of hours during the week, then won a Trophy Dash first time out. THAT did it! In those days, you got to kiss the trophy girl.....hehehe:

RE: Driving comfort Class A vs Class C??

There's quality-of-life issues, there's riding comfort, there's road-handling qualities, there's design quality, there's construction quality,....etc, etc.
Then, you have to fit all the above into AFFORDABILITY. Selecting the right one is risky business, unless you have adequate experience.
And, a truly experienced person probably will not do the selection for you, because then they would have to assume too much responsibility.

Dirt Track Racing....

In my early days of dirt track racing, at Manzanita Speedway (Phoenix), a pic of me and Dick Sutcliffe.

And, another trophy. That's Keith Hall on the right, Manzi owner/promoter.

Again at Manzi, a multi-lap dice with friend Buddy Taylor. My number was 1x.

RE: Test 1 Scanning & Size

Hello Chris,
Thanks for the reply. You've proved to me that there's quality to be gained using the right software (duh). It kinda solves one of the mysteries. I'm such a beginner in this kind of project, everyday a little lesson.
Thanks to all you guys.
I've scanned and resized some ole 8x10's that my son brought over from his collection. He's visiting for the holiday.
I'm going to try posting some over in ATC,.....now that at least I've got them down to regulation size.
The next thing I've got to learn is how to reduce the photos that I've got in PhotoBucket.

RE: Test 1 Scanning & Size

Just a note about what the above photos look like on my monitor..
The first photo ..the large one, is nice and sharp.. every detail is very distinct, ...
but the next ones ..(smaller photos).. are fuzzy and distorted.. take a look at the "Dixie" sign.. the letters are distorted... and the boy with the checkered shirt is terribly distorted.
However, the last two photos of the the hot rod are sharp and clear..like the checkered flag photo..
Realize it's none of my business, but thought another view may help with figuring out the problem..
Best wishes,
John
UUUHHH,....UUH,....that boy is 18-year-old me. That deuce coupe was my second street rod. The first one I built was a deuce pick-up.
Yes, I had noticed every single swiggly edge that you've mentioned. The thing that gets me is that over in the ATC picture forum there are plenty of unbelievably sharp photos, and I'm sure they've been re-sized. How did they do that? I'm always looking for the magic.
Incidently, the subject photo occurred in 1958, fresh out of high school.

RE: Test 1 Scanning & Size

MGI Photo Suite will not automatically select the other dimension whenever you select only width, or height. You MUST select both, in number of pixels.
Or, select from 4 standard size dimensions, and here's their 640x480:
On edit: Why does my 640x480 (which I thought was the largest allowed here) appear smaller than your legal size?
And, is there affordable software that will reduce without loss of quality? Thanks
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/WillieNunez/MyDeuceCoupeDixie.jpg
Another standard 8x10, scanned and reduced to MGI 640x480:

Test 1 Scanning & Size

My goal is to resize such that I can post the largest image allowed on these forums, but I need to retain the sharpness of the original.
With DW's help, I'm learning how to scan old 8x10 photos into My Pictures. The problem I'm having is in reducing the size, but without losing resolution/sharpness. What I've learned (I think) is that the pixel ratio of width-to-height has to remain the same. But, it appears that what I have, MGI PhotoSuite, does not like fractions of pixels. IOW I converted % reduction to number of pixels, and the only one that comes out in whole numbers is 50%, but I need smaller. This is the 50%:

RE: shared ownership

I would consider it, but my wife would NEVER, and I can see her point.
I did it on an airplane, a Cessna 310 R model, with known-ice and built-in oxygen system. It was working OK until the second annual. After that, my partner bought me out, and I went back to just owning the C-182TRG.

RE: To purchase a RV lot in a park... or not!

In reading these posts and looking at some of the rigs that go with the various posters it appears to me that people who have a spare million for RV lots like to buy them and those who don't tend to feel that a rv lot isn't worth the cost (and those folks, me included, are talking about lots that cost thousands not hundreds of thousands). Tbat may just be an appearance and not true - but it cerainly looks that way.
It would be interesting to know how many of us here on the forum could plunk down $500k+ for a lot.
My thoughts on this subject run parallel to yours.
But, to answer your question; NO, there's no way I would pay even 1/2 of that (not for any RV lot).
Why?
It's because I can answer most inquiries on this forum with, "It's all about money". Or, more specifically, it's all about net worth, plus how much cash-on-hand you have.
For example, if I had plenty of $$$$, buying a couple of $500 RV resort lots would not be out of the question. But, it would be after I bought my dream home, at water's edge, on Horseshoe Bay.
As it is, I paid $30K for a 100' x 200' in-city corner lot, on which to build my RVing base.
Side note: I don't believe there's any truly wealthy people on this forum.
